Good Ole' Tandy

In the beginning, Spencer tinkered with the beginner-grade, natural Vegetable Tanned Leather from Tandy Leather. Don't get me wrong, Tandy is a GREAT place to not only get started, but also to find unique leathers, buy tools and hardware, try other types of leathers, and even get great advice from the guys who run it. Tandy was a great asset for us when we began and we frequently recommend them to other new beginners who cross our path.

Sourcing a Tannery

When it came time to start buying in bulk, we decided to look around for a tannery, preferably local, to order directly through. This not only will provide us with a direct relationship to a tannery, but it will provide us with the ability to streamline our process and create a consistent look and feel to the product line.

Some of the deciding factors when choosing the right Tannery were:

  • Whether it was Local
  • Consistency of the Leather
  • The Quality & Durability
  • Evenly dyed & Minimal defects
  • Ease of ordering
  • Price

Notice 'Price' was last on our list. We wanted to find a Tannery that not only produces an excellent raw material, but if it came to sacrificing on the cost, so be it.

Good, quality products aren't made from cheap material...
